Hillary's Climb
The last few installments of Reader Mail at Spectator.org have included a discussion of the Queen Senator’s erstwhile claim to have been named after Sir Edmund Hillary, white male imperialist conqueror of Everest—despite the fact Sir Edmund didn’t become famous until after the Miss Rodham had already burst forth on an unprepared world. The correspondents are, I think, unnecessarily censorious of the Queen Senator. I, perhaps having been tetched after living nearly five years now in The South, have my own theory about Hillary’s claim.
It seems to me that it may have been simply an inept attempt to lie about her age—she having forgotten (perhaps in her desperate search for those missing billing records) that her age was already a matter of public record.
And if it wasn’t a crime for [her] husband to lie about sex under oath, what could possibly be wrong with her lying about her age when she wasn’t under oath? Didn’t it used to be almost required that a lady lie about her age once she gets “up there” in years? And being of her generation, I’m betting “up there” was achieved at 30. At which time, of course, lying was to be expected because one could never trust anyone so old.
UPDATE: Interesting. The trackback on this post was actually sent, as best I can determine, to blogoSFERICS‘s index page rather than to this post. Or it’s possible that Marble sent it to this post by mistake—but Marble’s post doesn’t include a link to this post so I can’t be sure. As a rule I have been deleting trackbacks where the referring post doesn’t actually have a link in it to the pinged post, but I’ll let this one ride. Watch for a new post later refining my trackback policy.
ANOTHER UPDATE: The pre-update portion of this post was adapted from a letter I had submitted to Spectator.org’s “Reader Mail.” They published it Friday (perhaps with undue haste) under the heading “Avalanche.”
Only an idiot or a member of the lamestream media (but I repeat myself) would be surprised by this.
UPDATE: Commenting will be broken (probably) for a little while as someone from pMachine tries to figure out why my attempt to use the subdomain URL discussed below the fold, made comments not work. If you have a blog and want to comment on something here while this is going on, please consider posting a related entry on your blog and sending a trackback, so we can see whether this also breaks trackbacks. Thanks.
ANOTHER UPDATE: Well, apparently the only way I could make comments (or any kind of form) work with the weblog.mcgeheezone.com URL in EE settings, is to have a real subdomain as opposed to the aliased one I’m using now.
